We are shifting the direction of the editorial content of AltDaily.com in a way that will lead to fuller coverage, higher quality content, and a more sustainable business model and work load. We are looking for editor/writers.

Artists. Photo series. Op-eds. Fine arts. Music. Occupy Norfolk. Local History. Science, zombies, bikes, and food. It’s probably been our best month of content ever.

What I’m stoked on today. (Hint: There are three of them, they have beards, and their name rhymes with Shmavett.)

We decided that the Editorial Board will have four primary roles, plus the creation of wtf@altdaily.com. Read on for details.

We tried to select a mix of individuals with a professional journalism background and experience in the world of activism, along with long-time AltDaily contributors and plain old passionate AltDaily readers.

It is with real joy that we announce this Call for Submissions for our premiere issue of AltDaily’s new print edition, Cannonball City.

Ideally our editorial board will be composed of writers, journalists, artists, professors, community and business leaders, and other stakeholders in the Hampton Roads community who see the worth of AltDaily and believe that its potential is perpetually greater than its current form.

Why a campaign targeting young professionals and creatives in and outside of Norfolk? In May, The Brookings Institution’s State of Metropolitan America report noted Hampton Roads’ slow-growing, aging population with less diversity than the national average. (…That’s bad.)

Professionally, I think that we can make a great alt news website. It’ll give a voice to everyone who feels like the Pilot is edited by their constipated, half-hungover aunt and uncle who were born here and died five years ago.

Personally I see us as a little like Connie Chung and Maury Povich, but I don’t think Jesse agrees.

In keeping with the spirit of openness and transparency, we’ve decided to make our editors’ letters a regular feature section here on the homepage.

So we’ve decided to report you our news. Sorry it’s taken so long for us to realize that–well, we really should go ahead and just make this all a little more transparent already.
