I like that this wasn't the typical, overdone exposé of factory farming, nor a guilt-inducing promotion of veganism. It wasn't even a critique, rather an educational and intimate look into the best small town green tip I've ever heard. I can't go buying and slaughtering my own cows, but I honestly wish I could! I bet every steak you ate as a kid was better than any I've ever had (with the exception of some amaaazing seared Kobe) and all the while you never even knew what you WEREN'T doing to fuck up the planet that most of us do on the daily. Anyway, I back this article. Mere mortals can still do the right thing, if only at the very least by doing some research, checking some labels, and buying from companies with decent standards.

This is a great article because I think there are so many people out there who want to live greener, more sustainable lives and don't want to give up eating meat. I'm one. I was a vegetarian for a long time, and my main reason was because of how bad factory farms and the whole system of agriculture that supports them really are. The number of people that could be fed with just a fraction of what one cow (which would prefer grass anyways) consumes is astounding. There are responsible ways to protect the earth and eat a porterhouse at least once a week. Thanks for pointing this out, Amelia.
