It is long past time that AltDaily has an official editorial board.

AltDaily hasn’t stopped growing since we got on our feet a few years ago. We yearn passionately to better and strengthen this project we have created for local awareness and community building in Hampton Roads. We are so fortunate to have embarked on a journey to vitalize the flow of news in Hampton Roads with our online publication. In the coming years we want to take everything to higher levels; we want to be the best we can be. We want to engage a larger population of the community and even those outside the community who want to learn about and enjoy our home. We hope everyone here will experience alternative news.

We want to hire more individuals with the same zest for journalism and life; and in general we long to find a way to get more people involved with AltDaily. Our unique and continuous goals keep AltDaily alive but are only conquered with consistent effort, freshness, vitality, and with advising from new resources each and every day. These resources, these inspiring and helping hands, come in all forms. They come from reaching out, listening to the needs and wants of the community, learning from other businesses in the area, and revisiting the mission we started out with. Today we believe these goals will grow more graspable with the pursuit of an editorial board. This board will challenge the company’s ideas, style, and output. This board will allow for more wide spread communication in more places of what we are doing here at AltDaily. This board will bring new perspective, wisdom, and the necessary tools we need to break boundaries. So here are our ideas for the board that we believe could be an altering legion for AltDaily.

The purpose of this board will be to:

• Give the AltDaily editor, publisher, and editorial staff feedback, both positive and constructive.
• Serve as a liaison between AltDaily and the community.
• Support our editorial and organizational mission in any way they see fit.
• Keep an eye on the way AltDaily’s content is affected by the direction of AltDaily’s parent company, Paper Pixel, and the individual choices and beliefs of Jesse Scaccia, our editor, and Hannah Serrano, our publisher.

While we will reach out directly to members of the community we know and trust, we are also interested in injecting new blood and ideas into our organization. Ideally our editorial board will be composed of writers and journalists, artists, professors, community and business leaders, and other stakeholders in the Hampton Roads community who see the worth of AltDaily and believe that its potential is perpetually greater than its current form.

Our Responsibilities to the Editorial Board

• Provide a monthly recap that includes links to all articles published, and notes on anything we found questionable or of particular interest.
• Organize bimonthly (every other month) board meetings, at which drinks and snacks will be provided.
• Respond to queries from editorial board members in a timely manner, and to hold special face-to-face meetings at board member’s request.
• Be respectful of board members’ time.

Editorial Board Responsibilities to Us

• To read a fair percentage of AltDaily articles, both on the web and in print.
• To email or call us whenever content appears to have crossed a line of ethics, taste, or quality to as so be a detriment to the magazine and mission as a whole.
• To occasionally support AltDaily through content and development ideas, plus contributions of editorial content.
• One member of the editorial board will write a public letter no less than four times per year. These will address reader and board grievances, celebrate what’s good, and advise on proposed direction of the magazine.
