Flock Pods, copper

Material is a very important element in your work. How do you find materials to work with? And how do the materials themselves dictate the form?

Absolutely.  Each material has its own beauty that I try to work with.  There have been times when the material had more control over the outcome than my own hands.  Knowing when to let that happen was my contribution.  The first mobile I ever made was conceived after Hurricane Isabel.  I was walking down the street and noticed a huge pile of Gingko branches that had been blown down during the storm.   The buds on the branches were unique and grew a particular way only during certain time of the year, I was lucky that the storm happened when it did.
