An Artist’s Tale: Electric Skeleton (Video)

An Artists Tale is a series that chronicles amateur artists in Virginia Beach.

It was inspired by artists pushing for a more cohesive artist community in the area. With an art scene that at times can seem almost altogether nonexistent, I wanted to bring together some of the greatest artists that I have come to know. It just so happens these people are my friends.

The series looks to discover the great things in our own community. Since the Hampton Roads area can be seen as a transient locale we often have artists that pop in only for a brief stay of which we never get a chance to see their great ideas in action. There are also the artists next-door that are littered all through out our neighborhoods. With out encouragement and a group of like minded individuals showing support the dream of doing what they love could be lost forever.

The first episode of the series takes a look at Jeff Sheely, often referred to as Electric Skeleton. It captures Jeff at work and also gives us insight into his paintings, style, and his approach to life as an artist. With bright colors and creatures that appear other-worldly, Jeff takes on painting with a tenacity that shows through in his every day.

ABOUT THE WRITER
Douglas found his calling to the arts while attending Radford University in Southwest Virginia. Originally a media major focused on journalism and television production he soon discovered a deeper fondness for the world of abstract. In 2007, he decided to stay an extra year at school and focus his time getting a minor in art. His work comes in many forms including film, photography and oil pastel as well as pen and ink line drawings. With an exploration of shapes and forms through metaphors there is an idea of chance and chaos at the heart of his pieces. Currently he works at Copper Art Designs in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The studio was founded by a group of friends and family and serves as a multi media outlet for all things creative.
