The Shake
By Shantel, 15
Can you hear what I hear?
Do you feel what I feel?
I think about the Shake.
I awake from my dreams.
Can you help me?
Do you ever feel like you can’t get out,
when the Shake is all that you hear?
You hear about God.
Let me know how I can get out
the Shake.
This poem was inspired by the sounds of trains outside the poet’s house, and the shaking effect of those sounds. “The Shake represents all of the noise in my life,” Shantel says.
