How can you not include local music as a bigger part of the “pulse” of Hampton Roads?

What’s up dudes,
Once again, someone claims to have the “pulse” of what is happening in the 757 and they do not include local music. Are you kidding me? How the hell can anyone tell members of Hampton Roads that they know what is going on in the seven cities and not include local music. This is one of the reasons that people don’t realize that there is a thriving local scene.
For far too long, everything thing that says they are all about the local happenings has ignored local music. Local music is treated as an after though. Whether it was in print, video, radio or on the web, the list of people that have truly supported local music is limited at best. As a matter of fact, the only true supporters that I can really think of are Splash Magazine, the radio show Home Grown which is hosted by Shelly of FM 99. Hampton Roads tv.com and my radio show the Locals Lounge heard on Max FM. Other than that, local music is given some lip service, but no real attention.
If you want to talk about what is happening in the Hampton Roads area, why not talk about Thursdays at Scotty Quixx or Peabodys. Both places offer quality bands every week. How about places like The Halfshell, H2O’s or Budda’s Place, who offer awesome bands every weekend. Places like Tanner’s Creek in Norfolk, and Winstons in Portsmouth who continue to have incredible shows week after week. Instead of talking about some big band coming to the Norva, talk about all the local shows that the Norva hosts constantly, many shows which give local bands the opportunity to play for these national acts.
It is an outrage at this point to continue to hear about what is happening in Hampton Roads while local music continues to get ignored. Are you telling me that unless some comedian is in town or some play is coming through that there is nothing to do this weekend? Are you telling me to stay home because there is nothing going on a Scope or the Ted or the Sandler? Wow, I guess Hampton Roads is lame.
The local music scene has made some incredible strides over the last couple of years. There are several bands like Revery and Mae that have made some noise nationally and there are a couple of bands that look like they are on the cusp. It is time for the big media guys to step up and start covering local music. People need to demand that local music start getting the due that it is owed and get the coverage that it deserves.
