Is this new batch of terrorists made of plutonium? Perhaps they have mutant powers.

Why the hell can’t they be held in the USA?

There are those who believe that the closing down of Guantanamo Bay would present this huge hole in national security, which is obviously not the case. The one thing I don’t understand is whether they intend to close the entire base, or if they merely want to close down the entire base in Cuba, or if they merely intend to close down the detention camps on base. There is only one reason I can fathom that it is important to keep Gitmo open: so that they can ignore the laws of the US, by being overseas.

What would happen if we brought terrorists to a Naval brig or Fort Leavenworth? OR anywhere else? They’re not getting out. No one’s getting in…

They already have the guy behind the first WTC bombing held at the “Federal ADX Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado which also houses many well known terrorists such as Zacarias Moussaoui and convicted shoe bomber Richard Reid.” link. How are these guys different than folks who were busted in Afghanistan?

And WTF is this bull about people who are too high risk to be tried, or have been abused and been made into future terrorists due to our bad treatment? If they’re too risky to live, have someone put a bullet in their head and get it over with, because putting someone in prison for the rest of their lives because you don’t know what else to do with them is asinine. This is not what this country is about.

You try them in a court of law.
You try them in a militiary court.
You let them go somewhere else.

If one out of 7 goes back to the battlefield, fine. Kill them this go around.

I mean, it’s possible I’m an idiot and I don’t see some glaring truth about how a Yemeni man will sprout lasers from his eyes and cut through his cell and guards and then continue to rein Jihad upon the USA like Cyclops. If that’s the case tell me that I’m wrong. But let’s quit this bullshit already and get some due process.

Hmm, what’s asinine? Perhaps making a campaign promise to close down camp X-ray (as opposed to the entire naval base) when it is unrealistic, and indeed unsafe to do so.

You are correct; these people, or any persons, could be held securely at a number of federal installations inside the United States. (In fact, a few have been held right here in Norfolk. But, that’s a whole n’other can of worms) The issue is not the security of the facilities that would house them.

You mention Reid, Mousouii, and Youseff; who are all currently locked safely away in super max
These men committed acts within the jurisdiction of federal investigatory authorities. None of the three, were U.S. Citizen however they were granted due process and subsequently convicted

The difference between these three and the the unlawfull enemy combatants held at gitmo; we had airtight cases against the former. The men at camp x-ray were captured in the middle of the battlefield,
the evidence against them: they were armed, out of uniform and on said battlefield. That was about the extent of the investigations. To try them in U.S. Courts is unfeasible because evidence collection in the midst of battle proves rather difficult. The majority of them would be released for lack of evidence. Regardless of whether we can prove guilt or not these men are dangerous. The democratic leadership and even the president NOW understand this. No one wants them in their states and, this administration has been unable to convince other nations to take them either.

As the home of freedom in the modern world, it bothers me to think that we can’t come up with solutions to problems like these. I may not have the answer, but it bothers me to think that these people have to sit in jail forever because the people we elect to solve the problems we can’t are unable.
