Free Comedy Open Mic at New Belmont

As a blogger, I try to make the occasional funny. If I’m lucky, I get one or two comments that let me know my comments were provocative enough that it caused someone’s thoughts to flow from their frontal lobes to their fingers and type something back to me. Unfortunately, most people don’t comment. I mean, you’re reading this now, and you’re probably going to keep your mouth (fingers?) shut.
Additionally, as one who reads blogs, there are certain things you are denied. You don’t know what I sound like, what other thoughts I’m holding back that don’t work in blog form, and what the other half of that face in my avatar looks like. Am I symmetrical? For all you know, I’m like Ghostface: “With a half of face iron, the other half water, look like alien science.”
Luckily, I, with other comics, am lucky enough to take part in the comedy open mic night at the New Belmont. It happens every Sunday at 8pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for where comedy comes from. Many comedy clubs believe in importing talent, and these comics merely tell the same jokes they’ve told in city after city. The open mic at the New Belmont, and others like it, allow comedians to try out new ideas that otherwise would never have an audience. They may not be funny, but they could very well be the next best thing.
Additionally, if you’ve ever thought you have the comedy bug, open mics are the only way to get started.
There’s only one way to find out what an open mic is all about, and that’s to go.
