Fantasy Shopping Night at MacArthur Mall

For a while now, I’ve wanted to buy some new sheets.
Problem is, I’m not the best shopper for stuff like that—sheets, clothes, socks—basically anything that involves cloth.
My new girlfriend turned me on to the idea that things like sheets are easily obtained in department stores. Who knew? All this time, I thought department stores only sold clothes that were too short for me to wear (unless I was planning an Urkel costume for Halloween).
Turns out, this Sunday, November 15 at MacArthur Center Mall in Norfolk, one of the Children’s Hospital for the King’s Daughters’ support groups, Magnolia Circle, is sponsoring a Fantasy Shopping night, during which a portion of the proceeds from sales will go to the Children’s Hospital.
I’m all for that. When I was 11, I spent months at CHKD, and I’ve always admired the work they do there.
For a small entrance fee ($5 in advance, $10 at the door), shoppers will have the mall to themselves from 7-10 p.m. A few of the restaurants will also be donating their proceeds to the hospital. Information on the event and buying tickets can be found by calling 757-668-7098 or visiting www.kingsdaughters.org.
I hope they have a big night. Most people will probably be using the evening to get a head start on their holiday shopping or to listen to the live entertainment. Me? I’m going to buy my sheets as fast as I can and get them gift wrapped so I can surprise myself later, then head to CPK and drink long islands. With a portion of their sales going to the hospital, I’m going to do all I can to help out the kids.

ABOUT THE WRITER
Once one of the world’s premier primate behavioral scientists, Michael abandoned his award-winning work with monkeys after a slight incident in the lab for a new career in the entertainment industry. After directing a series of films (each one, inexplicably, in Spanish with German subtitles) and writing a well received coffee table book about hats, he decided to devote his creative energies to writing poetry about outhouses in southeastern West Virginia.
