If you know good art and follow the art scene even remotely, you already know about Matt Sesow.
If you know good art and by some chance don’t know about Matt Sesow, you should, because you’re going to love him.
His work is so consistently good and so to the tastes of any lover of contemporary or outsider art, you could use it as a barometer for a person’s idea of good art. The compositions are powerful. The images are haunting. And the themes are moving. It speaks to some of the best art ever made–by De Kooning, by Francis Bacon, in German Expressionism–and is yet 100 percent original. You see it, and you know, That’s a Matt Sesow.
They are priced at a shockingly affordable rate despite being collected by the likes of Baron and Ellin Gordon. The show opens tomorrow with an artist reception from 2 to 4 and a formal opening in the evening from 7 to 9. If you plan on buying (which you really should, trust me), get there early to avoid a broken heart from the red “sold” stickers under all the best pieces.
And stay tuned for a proper write-up on Monday. To hold you over until then, here’s a clip from our interview:
Check out Sesow’s work at sesow.com.
